I’ve been an editor for over 12 years now, but over the past few years I’ve been amazed and empowered by the development of the indie publishing revolution. There are many copy editors out there, ready to help authors finesse and tidy their manuscripts, but there aren’t so many options for indie authors to access the same kind of developmental help that traditionally published authors do. I wanted to offer authors who are either not yet represented by agents or those who want to self-publish the same chance at getting developmental help with their manuscripts, so I recently started my own business, Dawning Edits, to do precisely that.
I’m an extensively trained, experienced editor and a member of the writing community (currently working on a YA fantasy adventure), and I’m so excited to give new authors an extra boost to really help their writing shine!
A little bit more about my services:
Manuscript critique: This service offers a bespoke editorial report that gives constructive, encouraging feedback on the ‘big picture’ elements of your manuscript, championing where your narrative excels and highlighting ways in which it can be improved.
Developmental edit: A full developmental edit includes not only an editorial report, but in-depth, detailed edits and notes within the manuscript itself. The developmental edit will use in-text comments to highlight specific examples and give suggestions for improvements throughout.
’Drop-in’ Consultancy: If you aren’t looking for anything in-depth, but just want some feedback or advice from a developmental editor then this might be the service you need to get you back on track with your edits. This ‘drop-in’ option gives you three hours of my time for a specific issue you are struggling with.
Bespoke Developmental Services: I offer other services that can be specifically tailored to your needs, including opening chapter critiques or beta reads, for example. Contact me directly to discuss your needs and I’ll see what I can do to provide a service specific to you."

I’ve taken on editing work in various forms for years, but recently leveled up with a Certificate in Editing from the University of Washington, and also became a member of the Northwest Editors Guild. I’ve proofread all types of documents, from business to academic to middle-grade fiction to steamy romance, and would be happy to consider your project, whatever it is.
Having been on the writer’s side of the editing process with my own novels, I know how nerve-wracking it can be to get edited, so I try to bring extra kindness and flexibility to the work! Whether you need an intensive line edit to rearrange sentences and clarify ideas, a basic proofread to catch your typos, a smoothing-out of syntax if English isn’t your native language, or any combination of the above, I’d love to talk to you about it.
